We are often told that certain degrees are better than the other.
Scientific degrees are usually said to make more money and have better job opportunities. But unfortunately, this was not the case for 30-year-old Gladys Cheptoo who graduated with a second class upper division in Microbiology six years ago. She hoped that this would be her escape from an impoverished lifestyle. This degree was meant to empower her life.
Unfortunately, six years later and Gladys Cheptoo is selling boiled eggs. In 2011, Gladys’s father passed on and left her with a big responsibility that she didn’t expect. Right now she has an ailing mother and 8 siblings that she has to fend for with the little money she gets. This has taken a toll on her life and literally robbed her the opportunity to do better.

There was a time she was almost married off to an old guy in due to desperate times but she ran away and is now in pursuit for a better life in Nairobi.
She has been ridiculed in her community, that despite being well educated, she was still struggling like the rest of the illiterate women in her village. She almost got married off to an old guy in her village but managed to run away and is currently looking for a job in Nairobi.
